Successful Completion of Anya's VGP Blood Track

Meet the Owner

Karen McNeese and her husband, Larry McNeese, now reside in northeast Colorado and raise their Deutsch Drahthaars (DD) at vom Cherry Creek Kennel, on 94 acres.  Karen was introduced to the sport of upland bird hunting by her husband Larry, who hunted behind German Wirehaired Pointers. She can now hold her own in the bird field.

I helped Larry, find a replacement for his last German Wirehaired Pointer.  We got our first DD in the fall to 2001 and this started our DD adventure.  I helped him train Jaeger (Helen vom Drosselbart) for the VJP and HZP. It was a challenge, since we did not know anyone locally to help us understand what the JGHV tests were about.  I enjoyed the training so much, in 2003 I got my first DD, Isis vom Drosselbart, and ran her in the VJP and HZP. I got my second DD from Lynda Krull, Tess vom tapferen Herzen, aka Tessie, in 2015 with a plan to become a DD breeder. I successfully ran both Tessie and Anka vom Westerness, aka Anya, in their VJPs, HZPs and in 2018 both girls passed their first VGPs.

Lynda Krull is my mentor for breeding Drahthaars. Her structured breeding program has produced repeatable genetics with very good coat and conformation, great dispositions, and outstanding performance.  She has excellent knowledge of the DD lines and advises me on my selection of sires for Tessie and Anya.

Karen is a new JGHV Performance Judge. She completed her apprenticeship in the fall of 2021. Learning to judge each dog’s performance in the VJP, HZP and VGP test subjects helps to direct my breeding program.  Balancing prey drive, pointing and cooperation is critical to getting a great hunting partner that allows us to be successful in the field regardless of what type of birds we are hunting.
